During the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations, Logistics, and Informatics (SOLI) in Singapore in late September 2025, Cyril Alias, Jonas zum Felde, both with DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems, and Herfried Leitner from TTS (Transport Trade Services) GmbH, have been awarded the “IEEE SOLI 2025 Best Presentation Award” for their scientific publication entitled “Configuring the optimal service of an intermodal bulk cargo transport service on the Danube corridor”.

The article presents results of the examination of an intermodal bulk cargo transport service on the Danube Corridor using logistics simulation. Precisely, the authors have looked into the performance effects of an upscaling of the demonstrated service towards a network of intermodal bulk cargo transport services on the Danube and derived service configuration decisions from the simulation results. This work is part of the scientific examination of the of the Demonstrator Use Case A2 of the MultiRELOAD project and is fully documented in Deliverable D2.8.

Apart from DST and TTS, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FHOÖ), Pro Danube Management GmbH (PDM), Hafen Wien (POV), and the Hungarian Federation of Danube Ports (HFIP) have supported the examination thread actively. “It proves the applicability and attractiveness of our service innovation”, A2 Demo Lead, Herfried Leitner, considers his innovation idea confirmed. For Cyril Alias, the award supports the DST’s research principle “to examine IWT-related topics with scientific methods and professional tools to yield profound research results”.

The SOLI conference is an annual gathering of the global research community working on the progress in service innovation, technology integration, and ICT-driven transport and logistics.
